The March Short List

25 Mar

The projects that made it into the final stretch of the decision process. Winner to be announced next week!

Cardboard Fort Night: Come and make giant forts out of cardboard and duct tape.

Disco Ballistic Toronto: Shiny disco balls installed in sunny locales all across Toronto.

Let’s Get Together for Coffee: A portable coffee house and performance stage that takes over unused spaces for use as impromptu salons.

Songs that Help You Do Things: Viral ditties to memorize the digits of Pi. Or to time how long to brush your teeth. Or to learn the sanctioned methodology of zombie slaying.

The Mighty Wall of Tics: A site where people with Tourette Syndrome can compete to see who has the cooler tic.

Project Zoo: Taking the hair shaved from animals at the zoo, turning it into yarn, making stuff, then selling it at the zoo to raise funds.

Shakespeare’s Briefs: A spur-of-the-moment Shakespeare collective that brings performance to unusual places.

Snapshots of Toronto: Distributing 100s of disposal cameras to random Torontonians to have them document their personal versions of the city. Then showcasing the results online.

Wikipedia Illustration Night: Find a Wikipedia entry, grab a crayon, draw your diagram, and enrich the world with your Crayola data visualization skills.

seriously? this is your idea of “awesome”? was so excited when this started up in Toronto, but thus far, it’s been the usual lame hipster ‘ironic’ crap. can’t figure out if this is supposed to be a joke or what… there are so many ppl out there with actually incredible ideas, and yet you’re choosing this idiocy? so sad.

I dunno Kate, I thought my Disco Ballistic Toronto idea was awesome… I think Geoffrey and the rest of the Awesome Trustees are doing an awesome job. HEY Kate, yunno what would be REALLY awesome? If you walked around Toronto with stickers proclaiming “usual lame hipster ironic crap” and applied them to everything that you felt was “usual lame hipster ironic crap”. THAT would be AWESOME. I’d come along to help you. We can discuss it at the next awesome awards night, yes?
    Love, Gregory Alan Elliott
(Feel free to submit my idea as your own if you like it.)
